Starstruck — Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 8, 2026

Starstruck ("we", "us") is a dining journal that lets you log Michelin-starred restaurant visits and share them with friends. This policy explains what we collect and why. Plain English, no surprises.

What we collect

  • Account info. When you sign in with Apple (or Google), we receive your email address and, on first sign-in, your name. We use this to create and secure your account.
  • Profile. A username (your public handle), a display name, and an optional profile photo you choose to upload.
  • Your content. The visits you log (restaurant, date, your rating and notes), photos you add to a visit, and the friends/companions you connect with or tag.
  • Trips and reservations. Trips you create (a name, and an optional destination and dates), the restaurants you shortlist on them, and any booking details you enter yourself — date and time, party size, and notes. We have no access to your accounts on Resy, OpenTable, Tock or any other booking service. When you tap through to reserve, that happens on their site, not ours; anything we show about a booking is what you typed in.
  • Shared trips. You can invite friends to plan a trip with you. Everyone on a trip can see and edit that trip's restaurants and booking details, and can see who else is on it. Only the person who created the trip can invite or remove people, or delete it; anyone else can leave at any time. A trip is visible only to the people on it.
  • Forwarded reservations (optional). Every account has a private Starstruck email address (Account → Import Reservations). If you forward a reservation confirmation to it, we extract the restaurant, the date and the booking platform, show them to you as a proposal, and keep only those three things — not the email. See "Optional features" below for how that works and who processes it.
  • Home city (optional). You can tell us where you eat most, so we can suggest starred restaurants you may already have been to. To pre-fill that list we also record your device's time zone and region setting. Your home city is visible only to you — never to other users.
  • Photo suggestions. With your permission, Starstruck reads the location saved inside your own photos to suggest ones you took at a restaurant. That matching happens on your device — we only ever receive the photos you choose to add to a visit. Starstruck does not use your device's location.
  • Social graph. Your friend connections, dining-club memberships, and any users you block or report.
  • Notifications. If you enable push notifications, a device token so we can send them. See "Notifications" below for what we send and how to control it.
  • Diagnostics. Basic technical data needed to operate the app.

We do not track you across other apps or websites, and we do not sell your data or use it for advertising.

How we use it

Only to make the app work: to show your dining history and dashboard, to let you find and connect with friends, to tag companions on visits, to share what you choose with the people you choose, to send notifications you've enabled, and to keep the community safe. That's it.

Who can see your data — and your controls

  • You can see all of your own data.
  • Your public profile card — username, display name, and profile photo — can be seen by other users so they can find you and send a friend request. You control this with the Discoverability setting (findable by everyone, or not listed in search — invite-link only).
  • Friends can see what you choose to share. In Privacy & sharing you can independently turn off your stats, badges, your visit list, and visit dates — each is enforced on our servers, not just hidden in the app.
  • Companions on a visit can see that visit's photos and details.
  • Your notes and photos are visible only to you and the confirmed companions on a visit — never to friends who weren't there.
  • We use Supabase (our hosting provider) to store data securely. Access is protected by per-user database security rules. Resend handles email we receive or send, and Anthropic processes the text of a forwarded reservation only when our own software can't read it (see "Optional features"). None of these providers use your data for their own purposes.

Notifications

If you turn push notifications on, we store a device token so we can send them. We use it only for the alerts below — never for advertising — and we don't share or sell it.

You choose which kinds you receive in Account → Notifications:

  • Added to a visit — someone tagged you as a companion.
  • Photos added to a visit — someone added photos to a visit you were on.
  • Added to a dining club.
  • Added to a trip — a friend invited you to plan a trip with them.
  • Friend requests.
  • Memories — occasional "a year ago today" reminders of your past visits. You can also hide specific people or clubs from memories, or hide one memory.
  • Log a booked meal — after a reservation you saved to a Trip has passed, a reminder to log it. We never create a visit for you; the reminder only opens the form, prefilled, for you to confirm or ignore.
  • Product news — occasional updates about new features.

Each type is independent: turning off Product news has no effect on the others, and turning off any one of them leaves the rest working. You can also turn off all Starstruck notifications from your device's own Settings app.

Safety & moderation

You can block any user (they can't find, add, or see you) and report content or people. Reports go to our team, and we may remove content or suspend accounts that break our Terms. See the Terms of Service.

Sign in with Apple / Google

We use these only to authenticate you. If you choose to hide your email with Apple's private relay, that's fully supported.

Your choices and rights

  • Choose what you share anytime in Account → Privacy & sharing (discoverability and per-category sharing).
  • Choose which notifications you get anytime in Account → Notifications, including turning off product news on its own.
  • Block or report other users from their profile or a search result.
  • Edit or delete content anytime in the app.
  • Delete your account anytime from the Account screen ("Delete Account"). This permanently removes your account, visits, photos, connections, blocks, and the reports you filed.
  • Questions or requests: help@starstruck.club.

Optional features

  • Reservation import (forward an email). Nothing happens unless you forward a confirmation (e.g., Resy, OpenTable, Tock, SevenRooms, Yelp) to your private Starstruck address. The message is received by Resend, our email provider, and read by our own software, which picks out the restaurant, date and platform. If our software can't read a message on its own, we send the text of that one email to Anthropic (the Claude API) to extract those same three fields; Anthropic processes it under its commercial terms, which do not allow it to train models on that data. Marketing and reminder emails are discarded. We never store the email itself, and we never ask for access to your mailbox. Every proposal shows up in your Inbox for you to confirm or dismiss; nothing is logged as a visit without you.
  • Gmail connection (limited availability). An earlier version let you connect Gmail directly with read-only access to reservation emails. That option is not shown in the app at the moment; if we bring it back, it will remain opt-in and you will be able to disconnect at any time.
  • Finding friends from contacts (future). We may later let you find friends who are already on Starstruck. If we do, it will be opt-in and use privacy- preserving matching (we compare scrambled values, not your raw address book). We'll update this policy before launching it.

Children

Starstruck is intended for users 17 and older and is not directed at children.

Changes

We'll update this page and the "Last updated" date if this policy changes.
